Klout or Harvard
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 28, 2011
Harvard or Klout? Recently I came across a video from the Wall Street Journal showing the merits of Klout and discussing some of the perspectives. This leads me to drive the vision further and to ask simple: how will our kids feed their families tomorrow? If the Harvard boys continue to build programs but the asset value shifts away from the program to the individuals populating it, then we may have to rethink economic models and education. The Klout Report Below the video which shows what Klout, Social Networking and Social Network Marketing can lead to. Social Networks Status Quo Up to now, smart kids built programs and got people to join. These people were building the actual asset value of the program — for free. Many such programs have been sold for billions or went public rewarding the program owners with loads of cash. Those who actually have built the content, traffic and prestige of the program were not really involved in the benefits of such transactions (think of MySpace, Skype, and others, where subscribers were “sold” multiple times). Social Profiles, Indexing and Klout While in the past, programs, like newspapers were analyzed for their target public (market) in [...]

Week-end at a Greek Hospital
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 25, 2011
The Children’s Hospital in Athens Living in the greater Athens area bears some refreshing surprises. This past week-end I became acquainted with Greek Hospital Standards as we had to leave YorgoMan (12) at the Athens Children’s Hospital to fix his wrecked up neck. But let’s start from scratch. Vouliagmeni is about 25 kilometers south of Athens, but part of the greater Athens Metropolitan Area. There are plenty of hospitals in our area and communities nearby, but when a child needs hospital treatments, there is only one unique place for the 5 Million people of Athens and beyond: the Children’s Hospital north of the center of Athens. Even if you bring your kid to another institution for emergency treatments, they refuse treatment and you are sent to that one only central hospital which in the best of the cases is 45 minutes away. With normal traffic it takes you an hour and when there is the typical Athens Traffic mess, you better take some snacks along. It must be said: the hospital has a great reputation and top-notch medical staff. In general, it can be said that the staff is not only competent but also devoted to their tasks, however the [...]

Empire Avenue a Review in 12 Chapters
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 15, 2011
Empire Avenue — Start Making Money Once your Empire Avenue account is set up as discussed in our previous post, you will immediately profit from rewards received for the set-up as well as you will attract some early investors (newbie hunters) who throw money at any new sign up to gamble on the potential first big jump of your share-price which may occur if you are a socially very active person on some of the connected social networks. Building Income and Building Wealth on Empire Avenue I have adjusted this part subsequent to important recent Changes of the Algorithm at Empire Avenue. In general there are 2 kind of people in this world, the rich and the poor, or the wealthy and those who have no or little assets. On Empire Avenue you start as a poor man with nothing and a base share-price of 10 EAves. Poor people’s first priority is to build income to survive, then to build a comfortable life style, then to save and to acquire luxury goods and to amass wealth. Poor people work for the money while wealthy people have their money work for them. At Empire Avenue this model is reproduced with surprising [...]

Surya Ray — Image
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 12, 2011
Surya Ray Profile and Image We have been looking at Surya Ray to demonstrate the importance of getting in control of your online image. Of course it is impossible to achieve that goal completely, but one thing is sure: if you don’t build your profile, someone else will. The profile is not just what you punch into profile pages from social networks and similar. It is what people perceive when surfing the net, it is the footprint you leave out there, it is what trackers may collect and interpret. Large corporations and good marketers aim to control what pops up on Google Top 10 and eventually beyond. Surya Ray Image on Google Google Search returns can be of paramount importance. Or, as we say here: the first impression is the best, namely if it is a bad one! When you search a company or a person to buy a product or a service or just by curiosity, you get Google’s search returns right in front of you and what you see there can influence you right away as it is something like the ‘first impression’. Here is what Google returns as I write; please consider that my 3 entries there [...]

Empire Avenue Changes
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 12, 2011
Empire Avenue Changes Again Subsequent to a recent blog post by Empire Avenue concerning recent changes, here are some comments: Empire Avenue Old vs. New System While the old system may have rewarded people for posting any nonsense, now we are rewarded for clicking on and engaging with any nonsense. What’s the improvement? Empire Avenue rewards Re-tweets of Re-tweets The retweet of retweets remains and becomes increasingly a rewarding industry on EA. Empire Avenue’s real Problem The modifications don’t really improve EA’s real problem, which is its own growth. Since May, EA has only lost traffic and looking at the quality and number of new arrivals, my projection on the future would be bearish. Boredom on Empire Avenue? While the game is exciting at the beginning, it becomes boring after a while and as rewards drop dramatically (cashflow) as the share-price increases you see people stagnating somewhere at the 80-120e level. In fact, the regressive reward system means that people would need to increase their social activity daily to maintain their growth, which automatically drives the system right into the wall. Empire Avenues privileges Large Portfolios and highly priced shares The recent changes seem to be in favor of large [...]

Surya Ray Storms Google
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 11, 2011
Surya Ray on Google When I told Surya Ray this morning that I would demonstrate to him how much more efficient a self-hosted high profile site is, compared to blog farms, I was betting on a 36 hours success. Now 12 hours later, here we go: Surya Ray Domain As the .com was already taken, I registered the suriaray.net domain at yorgodom :-). Yes, that’s about 12 hours ago. I pointed the DNS to a yorgobiz server and loaded a Semiomantics XO script and optimized it a bit. Then I punched in 1 post saying that the site was about Surya Ray and syndicated 25 posts from my Author blog into the site. That’s it. Surya Ray on Google’s Top 10 Surya Ray makes it with the new domain to rank 6, just one rank behind the YORGOO blog :-) beating already most of the competitors and large networks. The goal is to pass ahead by tomorrow. Surya Ray on Page 2 Surfing Google further, we find our entry on ranks 18, 19 and 20! That’s 5 in the top 20 and 2in the top 10. Let’s look forward to tomorrows situation, I bet it will be better! Incoming search [...]

Surya Ray
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 11, 2011
Surya Ray I met Surya Ray recently on the social stock market Empire Avenue. Surya Ray seems to be a strong believer in doing business in other people’s office (environments); how else could I explain a networking activity confined to the cave system of multiple social networks? Surya Ray Website I was surprised to see, that Surya Ray has not branded his name and set up a website to promote his business. You can find Surya on any social networks as well as on blog farms which don’t provide any significant impact on Search Engines. Surya Ray on Google Looking up Surya Ray on Google you will find namely entries from social networks where Surya has filled in his profile. Surya Ray on Semiomantics In order to demonstrate the power of a self-hosted site, I have set up a little demo sit based on a Semiomantics XO script with the goal to grab Surya Ray’s name on Google. Let’s see how long it will take to storm the top of Google with the new site. Search Engine Marketing and Social Network Marketing
by Yorgo Nestoridis • October 10, 2011
Search Engine Marketing and Social Network Marketing Search Engine Marketing and Social Network Marketing go hand in hand in a modern Online Marketing Strategy and yet, they require two completely different approaches. The Ycademy October Seminar will highlight these differences and help participants to structure their content flow in function of the requirements of both models. We will elaborate with each Participant a strategy to build a profitable profile. SEM and The new world order Search Engine Marketing is about the convergence of information and connectivity, it’s about “findability”. Successful SEM takes into account the Information Literacy, Information Architecture and Usability. These are critical components of the new world order. SNM and the fear of getting lost It seems to be a human pattern to connect to each other by fear of getting lost; today the quality of social networks shape and dictate the way our society evolves. Social networks offer free tools to connect and keep in touch with people and we are happy about that “free” service. In fact Social Networks do a lot more: they create profiles for each participant, trace and map our online footprint and judge our responsiveness to topics of interest, kind of other [...]
